Greetings dear friends in Christ Jesus,

On behalf of everyone associated with Florida Family Voice, I want to wish you and your family a wonderful Independence Day holiday. We are celebrating our nation’s 248th anniversary of the day our forefathers declared independence from a tyrannical government in England. ‘Freedom’ was the word then and ‘Freedom’ is still the word today.

Just a few years ago I was in the congregation of a church when a notable visiting minister from England was the guest preacher. He began his sermon by saying, “In your founding, America, you once stated ‘No taxation without representation’. Well, how is that working out you for now?” We couldn’t help but laugh. It just wasn’t a funny laugh but rather a sad laugh.
While at times it may seem like we created a monster in the form of a democratic republic government, our nation is nothing short of a miracle. A miracle that God, himself, helped create, guide, and bless, in spite of ourselves.

As citizens of this miraculous nation, we have responsibilities to ensure the generations who follow us have a nation of Freedom in which to live, marry, raise children and worship our God. Florida Family Voice remains steadfast in its endeavor to advance these cherished dreams. So, please join us in a prayer for our country as we celebrate our nation’s founding.

God our Father, giver of life, we entrust the United States of America to your loving care. You are the rock on which this nation was founded. You alone are the true source of our cherished rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Reclaim this land for your glory and dwell among your people. Send forth your Spirit to touch the hearts of our nation’s leaders. Open their minds to the great worth of human life and the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Remind your people that true happiness is rooted in seeking and doing your will. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. AMEN (prayer from the Arch Diocese of New Orleans)

Blessings,

Bruce O’Donoghue
